Statistics show that 1 in 5 foster youth will face homelessness. We house youth aging out of the foster care system that have nowhere to go. Be a blessing today.
S.T.E.P. (Successful Transitional Education Program) Grand Rapids Corp was founded by former foster youth for current foster youth. The purpose of S.T.E.P. is to ensure that foster youth step into adulthood with the education necessary to be successful.
Our program is a one year commitment. Youth live on-site in a family group setting as they prepare and save for adulthood. We offer weekly classes and group sessions. During the year, youth will engage in employment and decide if they would like to attend school. Each youth will be assigned a personal mentor. Prior to graduating from the program, staff and mentors will work with youth to prepare an "exit plan". This plan includes a budget, apartment lease, transportation, employment and mental health services. We prepare youth for foreseeable challenges and give them the tools to conquer the obstacles.
S.T.E.P. Grand Rapids Corp was founded by foster sisters Ta'drae Jones (left) and Kaylia Odesilo (right).
TA'DRAE JONES - "It is my honor and privilege to use my life lessons to help those who have slipped through the cracks after aging out of the foster care system. I have overcome so much in my adult life and it is my duty to give youth the resources to thrive independently. I have all the cheat codes, and it's time to share."
KAYLIA ODESILO - "I am grateful to be in a position to help youth aging out of foster care. I was in their very shoes just 10 years prior. It's exciting to finally age out until you realize you have no one to really fall back on. It can be scary not having a clear and secure path set in front of you. I've met many people along my journey that have been God's hands and feet to me. Giving back to other foster youth is truly purpose fulfilled."
