An introductory workshop that helps young adults navigate their new responsibilities. In Adulting 101 youth will learn time management, social etiquette, appropriate boundaries, house maintenance, and how to create a work-life balance.
Gainful employment is an essential part of being an adult. In this workshop, youth will take career assessments and make informed decisions of how to obtain their career goals. We will help youth determine if trade school, an undergraduate degree, or an apprenticeship is required to achieve their desired career.
In this interactive workshop, youth will part take in mock interviews. We will advise youth on interview attire, proper eye contact, confidence, answering questions concisely, research and presenting their best attributes. Facilitators will review resumes and help make edits as necessary.
Youth will engage in the basics of personal finances. We will cover opening a bank account, creating practical budgets, the importance of saving, paying bills, credit scores, credit reports, purchasing a vehicle, entrepreneurship, and lending money to others.
While finally exiting the foster care system will be refreshing, it is important to realize that years of trauma do not disappear overnight. This workshop will teach youth how to express emotions in a positive manner and how to cope with unresolved trauma. Boundaries, self care, and maintaining healthy friendships will be emphasized.
In this workshop, youth will learn CPR tactics, general first aid, and the importance of physical exercise. Youth will engage in a low impact 20 minute workout session that can be incorporated in a daily routine.
Healthy habits create a healthy lifestyle. In this workshop, youth will learn the essentials of a healthy balanced diet and how food affects the body. Youth will also prepare a meal. This course is beginner friendly.
Foster youth that have aged out have various resources available for specific purposes. In this workshop, we will go over funding resources and the best ways to utilize them, including obtaining a car, paying for college or trade school, paying rent, obtaining furniture and much more.
Sharing an apartment with a friend is a great way to save money. Our roommate counseling course helps to assess the best roommate candidates. We walk through various scenarios and help youth determine non-negotiables and safe boundaries.
